Auctioneers, Newbridge successfully sold 44 acres with a derelict cottage at
Ballybrittas, Co.Laois by Public Auction on Friday last. The property is
located just off the old N7 National Primary Route between Monasterevin &
Portlaoise with the M7 Motorway approximately 6.5km to the south of the
property.
Before
an attendance of around 20 people in the Keadeen Hotel the property was offered
for sale in three lots. The first lot comprised approximately 43½ acres in
tillage laid out in four divisions with natural boundaries and hedgerows and
circa 6 acres in timber. There was only one bid however for this lot of
€300,000.
The
second lot offered for sale comprised a cottage on circa 0.7 acres which is in
need of renovation with 2 bedrooms, kitchen & living room. Bidding for this
lot opened at €50,000 but stopped at €66,000.
The
entire was then offered and it was obvious that this is where the real interest
was with an opening bid of €370,000 going up in €10,000 intervals to €560,000.
The property was then placed on the market with further bidding between parties
increasing before the hammer dropped at €650,000. The purchaser is believed to
have been a farmer from the general area with equine interests.
